It is confirmed . F5 who deals with networking gears and load balancing stuff has acquired NGINX for a reported 670 million USD. There are fear among users about whether it will stay free or not. Some think that developers will fork the open source Nginx and make it available free it moves to a free pricing model.

F5 is more vocal about keeping the project available to its current users and maintain the brand and leadership

Another giant open source acquired. There are a lot of Nginx fans who do not want to use just Apache.

Yes, read it in Merger & Acquisition (M&A) transaction section. I don't know what both are but something good is being sold is what i can infer.

Nginx can be used instead of Apache and can also work as reverse proxy. It helps you build a faster system than LAMP. It is normally called LEMP.

LEMP as in Linux Engine X MySQL PHP. Looks like there is a big market coming up for Enterprise Linux tools.
