I think Ionicons are for use with Ionic framework. Not sure their icon font will work on other pages.

There are quite a few of them after the success of Font Awesome.

Possible. But you can make necessary builds from GitHub repo, if you know how to.

That is thing. There are platform specific icons. That is kind of a new trend. Icons just for my platform.

Yes, Font Awesome beats competition by a mile in terms of variety of icons.

But don't they take time in loading the icons in a website?

According to Dave ( owner of FA ), Font Awesome runs on over a million websites. He say your browser might have FA in its cache.
But don't they take time in loading the icons in a website?
Yes, it does.

These are excuses. The heavier the font, the slower the page will load. That means more icons is not a good thing all the time.

So is there any effective way to use these fonts?

Only options like using the cache like Dave suggested. For Font Awesome, there is a good chance to hit cache as suggested above. Moreover, even Bootstrap files take time to load. Every CSS and JS files takes time to load. It is natural, make sure the file is not heavy.

As of now, Font Awesome is the best choice. It is getting heavier though.

I would vouch for Material design icons by Google. They have lesser icons that Font Awesome. They have all essential ones too. Especially if you are looking for media icons.
